'They aren't fighting': Anees Bazmee on Anil's rift with Boney
The 2005 comedy classic No Entry is getting a spiritual sequel in the form of No Entry 2, starring Arjun Kapoor, Diljit Dosanjh, and Varun Dhawan. The young brigade has replaced Anil Kapoor, Salman Khan, and Fardeen Khan, leading to Anil being miffed with his brother-producer Boney Kapoor over the casting. Now, director Anees Bazmee has shared his opinions on this "rift."
'He has the right to be upset'
In a conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Bazmee confirmed that production is on schedule and will commence shortly. He acknowledged Anil's disappointment over his exclusion, stating, "Anil Kapoor getting angry is justified because he was the main hero of No Entry (2005)." "He put in a lot of hard work in that film...But they aren't fighting over it. They can't fight. He has the right to be upset."
'There can be emotional reasons'
Bazmee further said, "Anil ji is doing such fabulous work today...for him, doing one film or not doing it is not a big deal." "Yes, there can be emotional reasons because Boney ji is his brother and he is very attached to No Entry. I can only think of these two reasons, otherwise he doesn't have a lack of work." Bazmee added that Boney had informed him of certain issues necessitating a fresh perspective for the sequel.
Bazmee on his enduring professional relationship with Anil
Bazmee also discussed his enduring professional relationship with Anil, having worked together on films such as Welcome (2007) and Mubarkan (2017), among others. He reminisced about their early days together, saying, "I know Anil ji from the time I used to assist Raj (Kapoor) sahab...the first day I worked as a director was with Anil ji. We have that rapport." He praised Anil's generosity and their successful collaborations, stating, "Every time we collaborated we have done beautiful work."
Flashback: This is what Boney said about rift with Anil
In March, Boney spoke about Anil's anger. "Before I could tell [Anil] about the sequel and the cast involved, he got angry as the news was already leaked," he told Zoom. "I know he wanted to be a part of [the film] but there was no space. I wanted to make it relevant in today's time. That's why I did this casting." "In the process, my brother is still not talking properly."
