Andrew Garfield may return as Spider-Man, but conditions apply!
Hollywood actor Andrew Garfield, who played the superhero in The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) and its 2014 sequel, is keen on slipping into the Spidey suit again. In a recent interview with Esquire, when asked if he'd be up for the role again, he said, "For sure, I would 100% come back if it was the right thing."
Garfield's conditions for returning to 'Spider-Man' franchise
Garfield has some conditions for making a comeback in the Spider-Man franchise. He said it has to be something "additive to the culture," with a fresh and exciting concept. He added, "If there's a great concept or something that hasn't been done before that's unique and odd and exciting... I love that character, and it brings joy. If part of what I bring is joy, then I'm joyful in return."
Garfield's last appearance as 'Spider-Man' and future plans
Garfield was last seen as Spider-Man in 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home, where he shared the screen with fellow Spider-Men Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland. Reflecting on that experience, he said, "I still can't believe it happened. I snuck into a theater on opening night and just watched with my baseball cap on and my mask."
Garfield's reflections on abrupt end to 'Spider-Man' role
Garfield also opened up about his sudden exit from the Spider-Man franchise after the second film. He described his superhero role as being left "dangling," and said that the cancelation of The Amazing Spider-Man 3 was "really healing" for him. However, he's not completely shutting the door on reprising his role if things align well. Beyond the superhero world, his next project, We Live In Time, is set to hit theaters on October 11.
