'Have felt betrayal': Ananya Panday on why she chose 'Gehraiyaan'
Rising Bollywood star Ananya Panday will be soon seen in one of the most anticipated offerings, Gehraiyaan. Panday will have to hold her own while sharing the screen with co-stars Deepika Padukone, Siddhant Chaturvedi, and Dhairya Karwa. The Shakun Batra-directorial focuses on complex issues like relationship dynamics and infidelity. So, did the 23-year-old find the role relatable? Here's what she said.
Why does the story matter?
Completely shot during the COVID-19 pandemic, Gehraiyaan attempts to showcase the layers of love, adoration, and faith. The teaser and trailer have already received positive reception. We will soon see how well the movie performs. It is a great opportunity for Panday to prove her acting chops, too. Ever since her entry into Bollywood in 2019, she has often faced criticism.
What did she say of her character?
"[The complex relationship equations were] something that I haven't experienced before, at least at this level, but I have felt what [Tia] has felt," said Panday in an interview with Hindustan Times. Notably, Panday's Tia gets cheated on by her fiancé in the movie. "I have had feelings of betrayal, heartbreak, and felt cheated on but maybe not in this context," she explained.
It was all about diving in deeper: Panday
Speaking about her acting process, the Student of the Year 2 actor said, "I think it was all about diving in deeper and transferring those emotions into [the film's] context." She noted she had to be mindful of her emotions echoing those of Tia's and "not how Ananya would react." Panday maintained that one's age does not change/alter the emotions of feeling cheated.
When is 'Gehraiyaan' releasing?
"Many of my relationships were in school and at that time you think the world's weight is on your shoulders and every small problem is this huge deal," said Panday. "So if some silly problem happens, you think, 'Oh! I have been cheated on.'" Viewers can see Panday's portrayal of Tia on February 11, when Gehraiyaan premieres on Amazon Prime Video.
