The winners don't get the full amount
We have seen many people winning money in shows like KBC but it is noteworthy to know that the winners never get the full amount. As per section 115BB of the Income-tax Act,1961, the tax on the income from winning lotteries/game shows is charged at 30%, along with applicable cess and surcharge. This implies, the total tax can be as high as 35.53%.
