Will Amitabh Bachchan essay Rishi Kapoor's role in 'The Intern'?
The team of actress Deepika Padukone's The Intern, which was announced in January 2020, might have found an actor to fill late Rishi Kapoor's shoes. Grapevine is abuzz that the makers have signed superstar Amitabh Bachchan for the movie, which is the Bollywood adaptation of the 2015 Hollywood venture by the same name. Kapoor's demise last year had pushed the project to the backburner.
The makers have finally found their lead actor
Speaking on the development, a source told Bollywood Hungama that with Kapoor's demise, the makers had to re-analyze the casting. "Though it has taken a while, the makers of The Intern remake have now locked Amitabh Bachchan for the project and are looking to resume the shoot soon," the person added. There is little clarity about when the shoot will commence.
'Badhai Ho' director Amit Sharma could helm the remake
It was recently reported that Amit Sharma of Badhai Ho fame might direct the movie. The director, who recently tested positive for COVID-19, is busy working on Ajay Devgn-starrer period sports-drama Maidaan, produced by Boney Kapoor. The original movie starred Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro. Bachchan, if brought on-board will reprise De Niro's role and Padukone will be seen in Hathaway's role.
'The Intern' showed an unlikely friendship between boss and employee
The 2015 Nancy Meyers movie was a comedy set in a workplace. Ben, played by De Niro, is a 70-year-old man who returns to a modern workplace as an intern. Jules, played by Hathaway, is a no-nonsense businesswoman who forms an unlikely friendship with Ben. The movie received mixed reviews upon its release. It's available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
Bachchan and Padukone's on-screen chemistry was loved in 'Piku'
If the reports are true, this will mark the third collaboration between Padukone and Bachchan after Aarakshan and Piku. The duo's chemistry as a grumpy single father and a responsible and caring daughter was widely loved in Piku. The film also starred late actor Irrfan Khan. It was directed by Shoojit Sircar and earned Rs. 141 crore at the box office.
