Rape accused Alok Nath to play judge in #MeToo movie
Alok Nath, who was accused of rape by television writer Vinta Nanda, is back in the headlines, but this time for his career move. According to media reports, the actor will be seen in a movie, which is based on sexual harassment. Titled as #MainBhi (#MeToo in Hindi), the movie will feature Alok as a judge, who fights against this social menace. Here's more.
It's a puny role for poor producers, says Nath
#MainBhi caught everyone's fancy as Nath's role is quite opposite to his off-screen reality. However, he clarified that he is doing a small role in the movie, for which he had shot a while ago. "I'm not doing any films at the moment. This was something I shot for a while ago. It's a puny role for poor producers, let it release," he added.
Nath to give thought-provoking speech in '#MainBhi' climax
Helmed by Nasir Khan, #MainBhi also stars Khalid Siddiqui, Shawar Ali, and Imran Khan. Interestingly, Nath's casting is not the only irony here. Even Khalid's is, as he was arrested way back in 2015 for molesting his estranged (now divorced) wife. Making things worse, Nath will be also be giving a thought-provoking speech, at the end of the movie, about how molestation is wrong.
'We hope the film starts a debate on the subject'
Talking about the subject of the movie, Khalid stated that it deals with sexual harassment against boys. "The film deals with child molestation, a subject that hasn't been tapped on screen often, particularly with regard to boys. My character, along with the others, are affected by incidents that change our lives. We hope the film starts a debate on the subject," Khalid added.
Backstory: Nath harassed and brutalized Vinta 19 years ago
To recall, Nath, Bollywood's sanskari babuji, was accused of brutalizing the writer of Tara show Vinta Nanda around 19 years ago. Vinta made this shocking revelation last year in an elongated Facebook post in wake of the #MeToo movement. "I remember being violated endlessly. I hadn't just been raped, I was taken to my own house and had been brutalized," she had written.
Nath denied the claims vehemently
While the revelation left the nation shocked, Nath had vehemently denied the allegations. He said, "It (rape) must have happened, but someone else would have done it". If this was not all, he went on to say that it's just an attempt to tarnish his image. He even claimed that he was the man behind Vinta's successful career back then.
Separately, Sandhya Mridul also recalled her horrific incident with Nath
After Vinta, actress Sandhya Mridul also accused Nath of sexual harassment and said that the actor misbehaved with her during an outdoor shoot. Recalling the same, Sandhya stated that he referred to her as 'God's own child', and she remembered being impressed by him. But one night after getting drunk, he insisted Sandhya to sit next to him and said uncomfortable things.
Aftermath: Nath got expelled from CINTAA in November 2018
While the allegations against Nath refused to die down, the veteran actor was expelled from the Cine and TV Artistes' Association (CINTAA) in November 2018. CINTAA said they took the decision after he didn't show up at ICC and Executive committee, despite being summoned.
