Lizzy Caplan, in a recent interview with Business Insider, revealed that the canceled Gambit movie, starring Channing Tatum, was planned as a "screwball romantic comedy."
She was surprised that the project got canceled saying, "It's kind of odd that it got scrapped. Those movies don't seem to ever get scrapped."
The film was scrapped after Disney acquired Fox in 2019.

Caplan, who was cast as the female lead in Tatum's Gambit movie, offered some insight into the project.
She revealed that they were close to shooting and even had a start date.
"I had multiple meetings with Channing and the other producers. They wanted to do, like, a '30s kind of screwball romantic comedy set in that world," she said.

However, Tatum finally got the opportunity to portray Gambit in last year's Marvel blockbuster Deadpool & Wolverine.

Responding to the demand, Tatum told Variety, "I've been saying I want it for the last 10 years. It's in Bob Iger and Kevin Feige's hands."
Ryan Reynolds, who played Deadpool, also threw his weight behind Tatum by saying Marvel executives hold him in high regard.

Despite the initial disappointment, Caplan is relieved she didn't star in the superhero movie.
She told Business Insider, "I had a lot of stress about doing that kind of movie even then. So now I'm pretty OK not doing one of those movies."
