Oscars 2019: Here are all the winners
The 91st Oscars has started and it is without a doubt the biggest event in the awards season. This year's show looks promising due to some extremely well made and impactful films having been nominated. As the award ceremony continues at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, here we take a look at all the winners in Oscars 2019. Read on.
The actors and actresses in supporting roles
Mahershala Ali has won the Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his performance in Green Book. This is unsurprising as the film was made centered on the strength of acting performances from Ali and Viggo Mortensen. Regina King has won herself the Best Actress in a Supporting Role for the phenomenal performance she delivered in If Beale Street Could Talk.
Best animated feature goes to Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse
Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse wins the Oscar in the animated feature film category. This was expected since the film was highly stylistic with trippy visuals. The storytelling and animation were more phenomenal. The story of how different universes bring their Spider-Men together to save the day is touching, while managing to retain the fun we associate with the webslinger.
'Roma' has already started with big wins in Oscars 2019
Roma has got all eyes turned on it having led with 10 nominations this year. The Netflix film is already making waves at the ceremony. Alfonso Cuaron's film has won him the Oscar for Best Cinematography. Roma also clinched the Best Foreign Language film beating out tough competition which included the likes of Cold War and this year's Cannes winner, Shoplifters.
Indian documentary takes home the Oscars, and other winners
Period. End of Sentence deservedly wins the best documentary short. The Indian based documentary, that tries to destigmatize menstruation, went on to overcome the challenge of certain Oscar judges finding the subject matter 'icky'. Bao has won the Oscars for the best animated short while First Man has bagged the Oscar for the best visual effects. Skin has won for best live action short.
Costume design, best production design Oscars go to 'Black Panther'
Other winners include Black Panther for costume design that imbibed Afrofuturist styles in combining traditional African clothes with sci-fi tech. The film has also bagged an Oscar for Best Production Design. Free Solo has won the Oscar for the documentary feature film category. Bohemian Rhapsody has bagged three Oscars including sound mixing, sound editing, and film editing. Vice has won for makeup and hairstyling.
'Green Book' takes home Best Original Screenplay award
Green Book has won the Oscar for best original screenplay. The competition in the category was tough but the film has beaten out giants like The Favourite and Roma to take home the award. BlacKkKlansman, Spike Lee's powerful take on racism and rise of right-wing fundamentalism in America takes home the Oscar for the best adapted screenplay. It feels like a deserved win.
'Black Panther', 'A Star is Born' dominate in music categories
Black Panther won the Oscar for best original score, and Ludwig Goransson accepted the award for his evocative and thumping piece. Shallow from A Star is Born unsurprisingly won the award for the best original song. Notably, Black Panther, the Ryan Coogler directed Marvel movie, has done stealthily well at the Oscars this year. Sadly, it didn't win any award in the big categories.
Rami Malek wins best actor, Olivia Colman wins best actress
Rami Malek won the Oscar for the best actor for his role in the biographical movie, Bohemian Rhapsody. He portrayed the role of Freddie Mercury, the lead member of the British band Queen. Olivia Colman bagged the Oscar for the best actress for her role in Yorgos Lanthimos' directed film, The Favourite. She beat out Glenn Close, who was the favorite for this award.
'Roma' wins for best director, shockingly loses out best picture
Roma has been a smashing success at this year's Oscars and has won Cuaron the award for best director. The stylistic presentation of class struggles in Mexico came out beautifully under Cuaron's expert guidance. However, in a shocking turn of events, Roma lost out the Oscar for best picture which ultimately went to Green Book, directed by Peter Farrelly. This wraps up Oscars 2019.
