Alia Bhatt's sister reveals she is battling depression since childhood

In the wake of the recent suicides of chef and anchor Anthony Bourdain and designer Kate Spade, Alia Bhatt's sister Shaheen Bhatt has opened up about her own lifelong battle with depression.
In a write-up in Vogue, she revealed that she has been suffering from mental health issues since the age of 12.

"I've been suicidal on more than one occasion"
Expressing her sorrow over the two high-profile suicides, Shaheen wrote that her heart aches every time she hears of someone who was unable to live with the darkness within them.
She then went on to say that she has experienced the sheer terror of contemplating a life filled with unrelenting anguish on more than one occasion.

She mentioned that worldwide, more than 300 million people live with depression and it is now the leading cause of disability. Also, she revealed that nearly 8,00,000 people attempt suicide every year, which is one death every 40 seconds.
