Alfonso Cuaron: News

Born on November 28, 1961, in Mexico City, Alfonso Cuaron is a Mexican film director, screenwriter, film editor, film producer, and cinematographer. He is also the first Mexican filmmaker to receive an Academy Award for Best Director. Having received over 10 Academy Award nominations, he won four of them, including Best Director for the 2013 film ‘Gravity,’ and the 2018 film ‘Roma.’ The other two Academy Awards came for Best Film Editing for ‘Gravity’ and Best Cinematography for ‘Roma.’ Cuaron is a philosophy graduate from the National Autonomous University of Mexico. He further studied filmmaking from Centro Universitario de Estudios Cinematograficos school within the same university, UNAM. He is the director of a 1991 sex comedy film ‘Solo con tu pareja.’ After working for several years and directing various films, Cuaron, in 2010, started to develop the film ‘Gravity.’ He joined producer David Heyman for this film and it was a huge success, bagging several awards, including seven Academy Awards, and a Golden Globe for Cuaron.
