Akshay Kumar's 'Sooryavanshi' to release on a Tuesday. Here's why
In what would come as a sweet surprise for fans, Rohit Shetty and Akshay Kumar's much-awaited movie Sooryavanshi will now hit the theaters three days in advance. The movie earlier planned to be released on March 27, will now hit screens on March 24, a Tuesday. The new release date was announced by Akshay earlier today. Here are more details on this.
Makers plan to profit off the 'Mumbai 24 hours' policy
Notably, the makers of the movie have shifted the release date to milk the newly-approved 'Mumbai 24 hours' policy. All the movie theaters in the city will operate 24x7, starting March 24. The policy was approved by the Maharashtra government, led by Shiv Sena's Uddhav Thackeray, earlier in January. Furthermore, March 25 is also a holiday on account of the Gudi Padwa festival.
Aa rahi hai police, Akshay wrote on Instagram
The new release date was announced by Akshay earlier today. The actor took to Instagram to share an announcement video featuring Ranveer Singh and Ajay Devgn. The video also shows a glimpse of Katrina Kaif, who stars opposite Akshay in the upcoming movie. Akshay captioned the post as, "Ain't no time for crime 'coz Aa Rahi Hai Police! (sic)"

'Sooryavanshi' is fourth movie in Shetty's Police Universe
Sooryavanshi is the fourth installment in director Rohit Shetty's famed Police Universe. The franchise has previously seen three releases, viz. Singham (2011), Singham Returns (2014) and Simmba (2018). While the first two movies revolved around DCP Bajirao Singham (played by Ajay), the 2018 movie focused on Sangram "Simmba" Bhalerao (Ranveer). Akshay's character as chief of Anti-Terrorism Squad, DCP Veer Sooryavanshi was introduced in Simmba.
'Sooryavanshi' has been co-produced by Rohit Shetty and Karan Johar
Sooryavanshi has been co-produced by Rohit and Karan Johar and written by Sajid-Farhad. Apart from Akshay and Katrina, the movie also stars Gulshan Grover, Jackie Shroff and Sikandar Kher in pivotal roles. Interestingly, Ajay and Ranveer will also feature in cameo appearances, reprising their roles from the previous cop movies. The trailer of the movie will be out on March 2.
