Akshay returns to horror-comedy, to shoot for 'Laxmi' next week
Akshay Kumar is one of the most versatile actors in Bollywood today. The superstar has aced the game of entertaining the audience in every genre, be it romance, action, comedy, or period drama. And now, the 51-year-old is all set to try his hands on horror-comedy genre with Laxmi, 12 years after Bhool Bhulaiyaa. Reportedly, Akki will begin shooting for it from next week.
In 2007, Akshay stunned everyone with 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa'
For the uninitiated, this will be Akshay's second attempt at horror-comedy after Bhool Bhulaiyaa, directed by Priyadarshan, in 2007. He had played the role of a psychiatrist in the film, which also starred Shiney Ahuja and Vidya Balan in the lead.
Akshay to shoot for first song of 'Laxmi' next week
According to a report published in Mumbai Mirror, Akshay will begin shooting for the first song of Laxmi next week in Mumbai. "It would be a brief stint during which the team will film a song titled Bismillah which will have the ambiance of a typical horror film. This will be followed by another four-five days of work on some scenes," a source stated.
Akshay's character fears ghost, doesn't leave home after dark
Laxmi will have Akshay playing a character who fears ghosts and doesn't leave house after dark. The story takes a sharp turn after Akshay's character has an encounter with a transgender ghost. It will be a remake of Tamil horror film, Muni 2: Kanchana, which released in 2011. The Muni-Kanchana franchise began in 2007 with Muni, which was followed by the 2011 film.
'Laxmi' is an official adaptation of Tamil hit, 'Kanchana'
The third film in the franchise, known as Kanchana 2: Ganga, released in 2015, and the fourth film, Kanchana 3, will be released on April 19. Notably, Laxmi will be helmed by Raghava Lawrence, who had directed and is the lead of the Muni: Kanchana series. Akshay will begin shooting for Laxmi by April-end, and is likely to wrap it up by September.
'Laxmi' to be blend of first two installments of 'Kanchana'
A source close to the film said Laxmi will not be a direct remake. Instead, it'll draw the story from first and second installments of Kanchana series. "Farhad Samji is on board as one of the writers of Laxmi and the team has been working on the script for over six months trying to work new dimensions into the original story," the source added.
'Laxmi' to see Akshay collaborate with Kiara for second time
Apart from Akshay, Laxmi will star Kiara Advani in the lead. Interestingly, this will be Akshay's second collaboration with Kiara after their upcoming release, Good News. Laxmi might also star veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan or Sanjay Dutt in a key role. No official announcement, however, has been made. Apparently, the makers will wrap up Laxmi shooting by September, and are vouching for early 2020-release.
