Not just director, Akshay also awaits payment for 'BMCM': Report
The non-payment issue concerning the movie Bade Miyan Chote Miyan has taken a new turn. On Sunday, it was reported that director Ali Abbas Zafar has filed a complaint against producer Vashu Bhagnani for non-payment of ₹7.30 crore. Reportedly, the producer asked Zafar to forgo his remuneration as the movie did not perform well at the box office. The film, starring Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff, was a failure, earning only around ₹100 crore against its ₹350 crore budget.
'Why should Zafar write off his remuneration?'
A colleague of Zafar told Zoom, "Why should Ali write off his remuneration? Because Bade Miyan Chote Miyan failed at the box office?" "By that logic, a director's fee should be substantially increased when a film does well? Which producer increases a director's fee when a film is a hit?" The report claims that not just Zafar, but lead actor Kumar is also "owed a significant amount."
'Bhagnani claimed the film would break all records'
"Mr. Bhagnani claimed in a pre-release video that Bade Miyan Chota Miyan will break all records. Now he doesn't want to pay the director," the source added. A prominent producer, who wished to remain anonymous, attributed the Bhagnanis's current financial difficulties to fate. "It is karma hitting them where it hurts the most." "The best option for them is to declare insolvency and reboot from scratch," they said.
