Will Akshay Kumar's Shankaran Nair biopic ever get released
Dharma Productions's upcoming biopic, The Untold Story of C Shankaran Nair, has reportedly been put on hold. The film, directed by Karan Singh Tyagi and starring Akshay Kumar in the lead role, was nearing completion. However, the project has been temporarily shelved. The film tells the story of C Shankaran Nair's legal battle against the British Empire following the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
Film's release postponed due to underperformance of biopics
According to a report by Zoom, the decision to delay the release of The Untold Story of C Shankaran Nair was made in response to the recent lackluster performance of biopics at the box office. Despite having compelling narratives, films like Maidaan have not been able to generate substantial revenue. The report further stated that the film will "most definitely" be released, but not in the near future.
Kumar, Ananya Panday were to portray lawyers in the film
In The Untold Story of C Shankaran Nair, Kumar and Ananya Panday will be seen playing lawyers. Kumar's character is a senior and highly respected lawyer, while Panday's character is a junior lawyer who looks up to him for guidance. There is no romantic subplot between the two characters.
Film's shooting took place in Delhi and Mumbai
The Untold Story of C Shankaran Nair was shot in various locations, including Jama Masjid in Delhi and Goregaon in Mumbai. A massive set replicating Jallianwala Bagh was also constructed for the film's shooting. The news of Karan Johar working on this biopic first emerged in 2021, with Kumar getting involved last year to play the lead role.
