Ajay Devgn, Tabu-led 'Drishyam 2' starts rolling in Mumbai
Vijay Salgaonkar is back! Ajay Devgn, who played Salgaonkar in Drishyam (2015), has commenced shooting for the film's sequel on Thursday along with Shriya Saran who played his wife Nandini in the first film. Tabu and Ishita Dutta will also reprise their respective roles of IGP Meera Deshmukh and Anju in the sequel. Abhishek Pathak (Ujda Chaman fame) will be directing the second part.
Why does this story matter?
Last September, reports had suggested the sequel's shooting will start in December, but COVID-19 restrictions and other factors forced the team to postpone their schedule. Now that the filming has officially started, fans of the thriller can start celebrating. Devgn and Tabu were stellar in the first part and now their combination with National Film Award winner Pathak's directorial skills add to the excitement.
Devgn tweeted about the sequel
Devgn took to Twitter to inform about the update. "Can Vijay protect his family again?" his tweet read. He also shared a photo featuring himself, Saran, and Pathak, in which we see Pathak explaining a scene to the actors. The first part was masterly directed by Nishikant Kamat, but after his untimely demise on August 17, 2020, due to liver cirrhosis, Pathak stepped in.

What else do we know of 'Drishyam 2'?
The shooting is currently going on in Mumbai and an extensive schedule has also been planned in Goa. Drishyam 2 will be set seven years after the first film, which ended with Salgaonkar cryptically confessing to Deshmukh to killing her son Sam, and emphasizing that he will go to any lengths to protect his family. It seems the sequel will also retain this tone.
What did Devgn, Pathak say of this venture?
Talking of his role, Devgn said, "Drishyam was loved and it's a legend. I am now elated to present yet another interesting story with Drishyam 2. Vijay is a multidimensional character." Meanwhile, Pathak said, "Making an official remake of a successful franchise film is an honor and a challenge. It's exciting to retell a story from your own perspective and vision."
'Drishyam 2' (Hindi) has to stand out. Here's why
Notably, Devgn's Drishyam is based on a Mohanlal-led Malayalam film of the same name. Now, the latter's sequel has already been released and its story is out, too. So, Drishyam 2's (Hindi) team has to work really hard to make their film stand out.
