Aishwarya roped in for her 'guru' Mani Ratnam's 'Ponniyin Selvan'
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who was last seen in Fanney Khan in 2018, has been roped in for ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan. The former Miss World confirmed the news recently, and said that she is glad to collaborate with Mani for his next. Sharing her excitement about the project, Aishwarya said, "It's a privilege to work with Mani garu, my guru". Know more.
Aishwarya, Mani collaborating after nine years, 'Raavan' their last outing
"I am on this journey with him, and it will be an honor to be a part of anything Mani chooses to do ever," Aishwarya said during an event in Chennai. To note, this collaboration between the actress and the noted director comes after a hiatus of nine years. They last worked together in 2010 film, Raavan also featuring Abhishek Bachchan in the lead.
She made her big screen debut with Mani's 'Iruvar'
Aishwarya however refused to divulge any detail about the movie, and said it "will not be fair to override" the director. "I started my first film ever (Iruvar in 1997) with him, and even though there is such warmth and familiarity in our professional relationship today, it's his wish to share details with the world whenever he chooses to," the Guru actress stated.
'Ponniyin Selvan' is an adaptation of a historical Tamil novel
Ponniyin Selvan is said to be based on the early life of Chola ruler, Rajaraja Chola I, who was born as Arulmozhivarman. Reportedly, it will be an official adaptation of a historical Tamil novel by Kalki Krishnamurthy. If media reports are to be believed, Aishwarya will be seen as an antagonist. Besides her, it will also star Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi and Amala Paul.

Meanwhile, Aishwarya recently came back from the US, where she was vacationing with her family. While there, she and husband Abhishek also visited Rishi Kapoor, who is recovering from cancer, and Neetu Singh in NY.
