The clip, which dates back to after her marriage to fellow actor Abhishek Bachchan, has gained attention amid ongoing rumors about the couple's separation. In the video, Aishwarya can be seen responding to a journalist who introduced her using the surname "Rai Bachchan."
'Ohoo... that title is... my god!'
In the video, Aishwarya is taken aback when a journalist introduces her as "Rai Bachchan." She responds, "Ohoo... that title is... my god! Just regular Aishwarya, the way you have known me." When asked if "Rai Bachchan" is her official surname, she clarified, "Aishwarya Rai, as it has been professionally known, who got married to Abhishek Bachchan. So, obviously, Aishwarya Bachchan. Make what you want out of it."
Separation rumors fueled by Abhishek's social media activity
The resurfacing of this video comes amid rumors of a possible separation between Aishwarya and Abhishek. Speculation was further fueled when Abhishek liked an Instagram post about divorce. The post, shared by author Heena Khandelwal, discussed the rise of "grey divorces" or divorces among couples over 50. According to Redditors, Abhishek liked the post because it featured inputs from Dr. Zirak Marker, a close friend of Aishwarya.
Jaya Bachchan recently sparked row over 'Amitabh' mention
Earlier, Jaya Bachchan, Aishwarya's mother-in-law, came under fire for expressing her displeasure at being addressed as "Jaya Amitabh Bachchan" in Parliament. First, she objected to the name when the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Harivansh Narayan Singh, called her up. A few days later, she again caused a stir when Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar introduced her as "Smt Jaya Amitabh Bachchan," the name on her official nomination papers, on Monday. Dhankar suggested she change her official name on the documents.
