Will AP Dhillon's concert be a repeat of Diljit-Coldplay chaos
Coldplay fans in India were disappointed after tickets for the band's upcoming concerts sold out within minutes on Sunday. At 12:00pm when ticket sales for their Music of the Spheres World Tour were scheduled to begin, BookMyShow's website and app became unresponsive, preventing fans from accessing the ticketing page. A few days ago, fans of Diljit Dosanjh were met with the same fate. Soon, another superstar, AP Dhillon's concert dates will be announced. Music lovers worry, will history repeat itself?
Dhillon's India tour: Canadian sensation yet to announce dates
Following the Coldplay and Dil-Luminati (Dosanjh's tour title) ticket sales debacles, fans are apprehensive about the upcoming India tour of Punjabi-Canadian singer Dhillon. The Brown Munde singer recently announced his India tour on social media, but details about the dates, cities, and ticket sales platform are yet to be revealed. Fans are hoping that the ticket sales for Dhillon's tour will be a smoother process compared to previous events.
What happened with Coldplay tickets?
The Coldplay tickets were set to go live on the popular booking portal at noon, on September 22. Minutes before people braced themselves up for an intense (virtual) battle for tickets, every last contender got logged out due to server errors. A few lucky fans were able to get that elating 'booking confirmed!' message on their devices, but most had to tap out of the insanely long online queue they were put in by the portal, running into lakhs.
Fans left disappointed, some explore international options
For a few fans, the upcoming Coldplay concert in Mumbai was their second attempt at seeing their favorite band play live. However, glitches on the booking site and a long virtual queue shattered the dreams of many. Some fans are now exploring international options for attending the concert, with shows scheduled in Abu Dhabi, Hong Kong, and Seoul.
Coldplay tickets being resold at inflated prices
On BookMyShow, Coldplay concert tickets were available starting from ₹2,500 up to ₹35,000 for lounge tickets. However some people are selling tickets directly through social media at inflated prices. A site called Viagogo is selling Coldplay tickets for as high as ₹7 lakh. Allegedly, tickets became available on Viagogo while the actual sale on BMS was live.
'Dil-Luminati' ticket sales fiasco was also similar
The Coldplay ticket sales debacle is reminiscent of the recent Dil-Luminati tour by Punjabi singer Dosanjh. The tickets for the India leg of the tour were sold out within minutes, leaving many fans disappointed and questioning who actually managed to secure them. The Dil-Luminati tour became the highest grossing concert tour ever in India with as many as 2.5 lakh tickets being sold.
