Ex-adult star Emily Willis left 'permanently disabled' after rehab stay
What's the story
Former adult film star Emily Willis has reportedly been left permanently disabled following her stay at Summit Malibu rehab center.
Her family has filed a lawsuit, alleging negligence and improper care during her treatment for ketamine addiction.
As a result of this alleged mishandling, the 25-year-old celebrity is now in a semi-conscious state, unable to move or speak, raising serious concerns about the facility's medical practices.
Health decline
Willis's health deteriorated rapidly at the rehab center
Willis, whose real name is Litzy Lara Banuelos, arrived at Summit Malibu on January 27, 2024, for help with a ketamine addiction.
She had been heavily abusing the drug, taking five to six grams daily for a year.
The heavy abuse resulted in serious side effects such as bladder issues, night terrors, and incontinence.
She was battling with depression, anxiety, and PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), and her health quickly deteriorated at the rehab facility.
Medical emergency
Willis suffered cardiac arrest due to alleged negligence
The lawsuit filed by Willis's family alleges that staff at the rehab center ignored her deteriorating condition.
After just a few days in the rehab center, she suffered a cardiac arrest.
A nurse found her unconscious and called emergency services but, according to the lawsuit, she had been left unattended for a long time before this discovery.
This lack of immediate care allegedly caused lasting damage to Willis.
Legal battle
'Her health was ignored until it was too late'
James A. Morris Jr., the attorney for Willis and her guardian, Yesenia Lara Cooper, was deeply concerned about the treatment she received.
He said, "Had the staff followed standard medical protocols, Emily would have had the opportunity to regain control of her life."
"No patient should ever be subjected to such a horrendous breakdown in clinical care. Her health was ignored until it was too late, and now her life is forever changed."
Pursuit of justice
Willis's family seeks justice for alleged negligence
Through the lawsuit, Willis's family is seeking justice, hoping to hold Summit Malibu and its parent company accountable for the negligence that led to her current state.
They are pushing for a full investigation into the rehab center's practices and demanding that no one else be subjected to similar treatment.
The lawsuit, Cooper v. Malibu Treatment Centers and Summit Malibu (Case No. 24SMCV06328), was lodged on December 27, 2024, at the Los Angeles County Superior Court.
