Singer Adnan Sami recently responded to a Pakistani social media user who commented on his decision to acquire Indian citizenship in 2016. The user's comment was made on a post that Sami had shared on Independence Day, featuring a photo of him with the Indian tricolor in the background. The singer's response has since garnered attention and support from Indian netizens.

The Pakistani netizen had commented on Sami's Independence Day post, saying, "Sahi time pe nikal gae ustaad (from Pakistan), humare L lag gae hai yahn pe." To this, the singer responded by sharing a screenshot of the comment on his official X account on Thursday and wrote, "Don't question my wisdom next time!! #karma." His response has since been met with support from Indian users.
'India owns you,' commented a user
Following Sami's response, several Indian netizens expressed their support for the singer. One user commented, "Never buddy...you escaped a potential dooms day and India owns you." Another wrote, "Us Indians are fortunate to have you amongst us." A third user asked, "How did u get Indian citizenship. Hope one day u will discuss. Tarek Fateh sahab could not get in his lifetime we still miss that man."
Sami's journey to Indian citizenship was not easy
Sami, who is known for his hit song Lift Kara De, had previously admitted in an interview that his decision to relocate to India was a significant one, given the political tensions between the two countries. He clarified that he is a musician and has no involvement in politics. He had been stateless for a year and a half after renouncing Pakistani citizenship and was twice denied Indian citizenship. It took him 18 years to finally become an Indian citizen.
