'Inside Edge' actor Karan Oberoi arrested for drugging, raping woman
TV actor and singer Karan Oberoi was arrested by Oshiwara police today in connection with a rape case. The 40-year-old actor, who was last seen on Amazon Prime's Inside Edge, allegedly drugged and raped a woman on the pretext of marrying her, and later extorted money from her. Oberoi had met the woman, who's an astrologer, through a dating app in October 2016, Mumbai Mirror reports. The woman claims that one day at his Andheri flat, he offered her coconut water that made her dizzy. The actor then raped her and filmed the act on his smartphone, the woman alleged in her complaint. She also claims Oberoi had promised to marry her.

"Using the video the accused blackmailed me and took money from me. However, whenever I asked him about marriage, he kept ignoring it and would ask for more money. Recently when I insisted on the marriage, he threatened me and said do whatever you want to do," the woman alleged in her complaint, Mumbai Mirror states. A probe is on to investigate the allegations.
Oberoi has been sent to police custody till May 9
The police have now registered a case under Section 376 (rape) and 384 (extortion) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Oberoi. According to ANI, the actor has been sent to police custody till May 9 by a Mumbai court.

Oberoi started a career in acting with Mahesh Bhatt's Swabhimaan in 1995. He also featured on the 1998 soap opera Saaya. In 2001, Oberoi, along with Sudhanshu Pandey, Sherrin Varghese, Siddharth Haldipur and Chaitnya Bhosale, formed the music group A Band of Boys, which released a film, Kis Kis Ko in 2004. He is best known for his role in Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin.
