Mumbai Police arrests Ajaz Khan over 'communal' TikTok video
Actor and former Bigg Boss contestant Ajaz Khan was arrested by the Mumbai crime branch's cyber cell on Thursday morning. Reportedly, the 39-year-old actor had posted a controversial video on the video sharing app TikTok. According to reports, the video was 'communal' and was related to Tabrez Ansari's lynching incident. Here are more details about Khan's arrest.
Khan to be produced in court, says police officer
A senior officer told Mid-Day, "We have arrested Ajaz Khan and he will be produced before the court shortly." Khan, who is infamous for voicing his controversial opinions, had reportedly taunted the Mumbai Police for filing an FIR against TikTok influencers, threatening violence as revenge for Ansari's death. In the video, Khan was seen with one of 'Team 07' TikTokers.
What was the 'controversial' video?
Further, according to DNA, the video in question is an 8-month-old video featuring Khan and TikToker Faisal Shaikh aka Faisu (a member of 'Team 07') repeating a Bollywood dialog. Khan had reposted the video along with the caption: "Warrant Laya Hai? Ramesh Solanki?" Ramesh Solanki is a Shiv Sena activist who had registered a complaint against 'Team 07' with the Mumbai Police cyber cell.
Earlier, TikTok's Team 07 'spewed venom' over Ansari's lynching
For the uninitiated, a TikTok group of influencers named 'Team 07', which has nearly 4 crore followers, condemned the Ansari's lynching and threatened violence. TikTok had later removed the videos from the platform. The group consisted of Faisal Shaikh, Hasnain Khan, Faiz Baloch, Adnan Shaikh, and Sadhan Faroqui. On Wednesday, Mumbai sessions court judge DS Deshmukh had dismissed a plea for anticipatory bail.
Ansari was lynched last month over suspicion of theft
To recall, Ansari was lynched in Jharkhand's Dhatkidih village of Seraikela-Kharsawan district last month on the suspicion of stealing a bike. He was forced to chant 'Jai Shree Ram' and thrashed brutally. A video of the incident had gone viral on social media.
