Eddie Murphy's film crew members injured in accident
An unfortunate accident occurred on the set of Eddie Murphy's upcoming film, The Pickup, resulting in injuries to several crew members. The incident took place during an action sequence shoot on Saturday, reported the Associated Press. The production, currently filming in Georgia, confirmed the mishap during the second unit sequence. A studio representative expressed regret over the incident, stating, "Unfortunately, the sequence did not go as planned and several members of the crew were injured as a result."
What happened?
The AP revealed that the accident involved a truck that unexpectedly "locked up" and collided with a car. This resulted in injuries ranging from minor bruises to severe broken bones among the crew members. Following the incident, two individuals were immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment. Notably, the Amazon Studios-backed film stars Murphy, Keke Palmer, and Pete Davidson, but neither were present on set when the accident occurred.
Amazon Studios and IATSE have initiated investigations into the incident
Amazon is actively investigating the incident, with a spokesperson stating, "We are still in the process of gathering facts on what happened and why, but first and foremost our thoughts are with those who are recovering." The studio emphasized its primary concern for the safety and well-being of all cast and crew members. Additionally, the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE), the union representing crew members, has also initiated a probe into this unfortunate event.
Production for the unit was temporarily halted
The mishap occurred at Shadowbox Studios in Atlanta during a second unit shoot. Following the incident, production for this unit was temporarily halted on Sunday. However, sources close to production revealed that filming was never entirely stopped and director Tim Story was not present when the accident occurred. The Pickup, a heist film directed by Story, has been in production in and around Atlanta since February 20. The accident is unlikely to affect the production schedule.
