'Atrangi Re' director regrets releasing film on OTT; here's why
Filmmaker Aanand L Rai has expressed regret over the digital release of his film Atrangi Re, starring Dhanush, Sara Ali Khan, and Akshay Kumar. The film had premiered on Disney+ Hotstar in December 2021 amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Speaking with Zoom, Rai said he wished he had waited a bit longer to release the film in theaters.
'Atrangi Re' needed 2 hours of undivided attention, says Rai
Rai told Zoom, "Yes, I do regret not waiting for some more time. I normally don't keep regrets but with Atrangi Re, I realized that I should have waited." He added, "That emotion needed that dark room. Two hours of undivided attention. Atrangi Re deserved that big screen. But then it's a fate, life moves on." "I still got a lot of love for that film. but yes it should have been a big screen experience."
'Atrangi Re' plot revolves around a forced marriage
Directed by Rai and written by Himanshu Sharma, Atrangi Re is about Vishwanathan Iyer a.k.a. Vishu (Dhanush), a Tamilian doctor who is forced to marry Rinku Sooryavanshi (Khan) as per her grandmother's wishes. Meanwhile, Vishu was to get engaged to his girlfriend in Chennai. Rinku follows him there, leading to trouble in the relationship. The film also stars Kumar as Rinku's mysterious lover.
