Aamir's 'Sitaare Zameen Par' might miss Christmas release: Here's why
Aamir Khan's much-anticipated sports comedy, Sitaare Zameen Par, is reportedly set to be postponed. The film was initially scheduled for a pre-Christmas release on December 20. However, a report by PeepingMoon suggests that due to post-production delays, it is unlikely to meet this deadline. The makers are yet to officially announce the postponement. This development leaves Mufasa: The Lion King, Welcome to the Jungle for a clash at the box office on December 20.
Release date to be pushed by at least three months
According to sources, Sitaare Zameen Par is facing post-production delays that are likely to push its release date back by at least three months. A source close to the production said, "Aamir is happy with how the film is shaping up, and he's excited to bring it to audiences. However, post-production requires some more time for what Aamir wants to accomplish with it."
'Sitaare Zameen Par' is an adaptation of Spanish film 'Campeones'
Sitaare Zameen Par, directed by RS Prasanna of Shubh Mangal Saavdhan fame, is an Indian adaptation of the critically acclaimed Spanish film Campeones (2018). The plot revolves around a self-centered basketball coach who forms a Special Olympics team composed of intellectually disabled players as part of his community service sentence. The film features Genelia Deshmukh as the female lead and a supporting cast of real-life athletes with disabilities.
Jio Studios's other film 'Baby John' to release on Christmas
Further fueling postponement rumors is the fact that Jio Studios, a co-producer of Sitaare Zameen Par, has already scheduled the release of another film, Varun Dhawan's Baby John, for the same Christmas weekend on December 25. This would have resulted in a clash between the two films. Khan's film would be the second major Bollywood release to shift away from the Christmas slot.
Not the first major film to face postponement
This is not the first time a major release has been postponed due to clashes or production setbacks. Recently, Suriya's upcoming movie Kanguva also made headlines after its makers announced a postponement from its original release date of October 10, due to a clash with Rajinikanth's Vettaiyan. It is now rumored to be released on Diwali, October 31. This highlights the strategic decisions made by filmmakers to ensure their projects receive maximum success.
