Aamir Khan reveals he wanted to quit films: Here's why
Bollywood actor Aamir Khan recently attended an event in Mumbai where he revealed he recently considered quitting acting. He stated he has been in an introspective mood for the past two years. Adding he lost a lot during the COVID-19 pandemic, Khan said he, however, gained many things in life. He further said he also felt bad about not being available for his family.
Why does this story matter?
Khan's last theatrical release was the 2018 film Thugs of Hindostan and later he had a special appearance in Koi Jaane Na (2021). So, it's been over three years since we saw him in a full-fledged role. While we await the release of Khan's next, Laal Singh Chaddha, this news that he had considered quitting films over the last two years comes as unexpected.
Khan refrained from announcing decision publicly
At the recently held ABP Ideas of India event in Mumbai, the 3 Idiots admitted that he had initially considered quitting acting in order to make up for the lost time with his family. Though he had discussed the same with his family, he never revealed it publicly, assuming it may be considered as a promotion tactic for his upcoming film Laal Singh Chaddha.
'I didn't pay attention to my loved ones'
"I spent my life chasing my dreams...trying to fulfill them. But during this journey, I didn't pay attention to my loved ones," Khan said during the event. "We know we will run out of time one day...we don't know when. I had a sharp realization about this... I've lived my life in some sort of trance...I've lost a lot because of this," he added.
Khan's ex-wife Kiran Rao, children convinced him to reconsider decision
Khan further said it was his ex-wife, filmmaker Kiran Rao, who convinced him to reconsider his decision to quit films. "Kiran cried and said, 'When I see you, I see films residing inside you,'" he revealed. He added his children asked him to "find a balance" instead of giving up acting. "A lot happened in two years...I quit the industry and came back," he concluded.
