'A Complete Unknown' to capture Dylan's early career
A Complete Unknown will follow the life of 19-year-old Dylan, chronicling his journey from Minnesota to New York City with just two dollars in his pocket. The film will depict his initial struggle, his acceptance into the folk music community of New York, and his subsequent rise to international stardom. In an interview with Collider in April 2023, director Mangold described this period as "an amazing time in American culture."
Chalamet to sing in the film
In a December 2023 interview, Chalamet confirmed that he would be recording his own vocals for the upcoming film. He revealed that 70% of the soundtrack had already been recorded in a Californian studio with the film's music supervisor, Nick Baxter. Dylan's manager, Jeff Rosen, also provided Chalamet with 12 hours of unreleased Dylan music from 1959 to 1964 to aid his preparation for the role.
Star-studded cast joined Chalamet in 'A Complete Unknown'
Joining Chalamet in A Complete Unknown is a stellar cast including Elle Fanning, Edward Norton, Monica Barbaro, and Boyd Holbrook. Fanning will portray Sylvie Russo, Dylan's fictional girlfriend inspired by his real-life former girlfriend and muse Suze Rotolo. Norton will play the role of Dylan's fellow folk musician Pete Seeger, while Barbaro will depict a young Joan Baez. Holbrook is rumored to be playing the iconic Johnny Cash.
