Observation
Why was the OTT release delayed?
While generally, a film hits digital platforms 30 days after its theatrical premiere, in the case of 83, it's been 90 days.
Reports suggest the delay was because the producers were working on a "huge" deal with an international platform so they can recover losses.
Produced by lead actor Ranveer Singh's wife Deepika Padukone, Sajid Nadiadwala, and Reliance Entertainment, 83, however, didn't click commercially.
Information
Film hit OTT space later than TV premiere
Notably, 83 has arrived in the OTT space after its TV premiere, which is quite unusual. The film was aired on Star Gold on Sunday (March 20) at 8:00pm.
Earlier, some reports suggested that the movie might start streaming from March 18 on the occasion of Holi, but guess, the makers wanted to hold back 83's OTT outing to tap onto the IPL buzz.
Fact
Box office failure of '83' was a surprise
It rather came as a surprise when 83 couldn't even reach its break-even point.
Made on a budget of Rs. 280cr, it managed to collect Rs. 193.73cr.
This is despite massive promotions, strong word-of-mouth, starry cast and crew, no predicted competition as such, and Christmas Eve outing.
At the box office, it was shockingly defeated by the dubbed version of the Telugu film Pushpa.
