National Awards: 'Gulmohar' Best Hindi Film; Rishab Shetty Best Actor
The winners of the 70th National Film Awards were announced on Friday by the Information and Broadcasting Ministry. The Malayalam movie Attam bagged the Best Feature Film award, while Rishab Shetty was named Best Actor for his performance in Kantara. The jury for this year's awards included Rahul Rawail (Chairperson of the Feature Film Jury), Nila Madhab Panda (Chairperson of the Non-Feature Film Jury), and Gangadhar Mudalair (Chairperson of the Best Writing on Cinema Jury).
Best Actress award shared by Nitya Menon, Manasi Parekh
The Best Actress award was shared by Nitya Menon and Manasi Parekh for Thiruchitrambalam and Kutch Express, respectively. Neena Gupta won the Best Actress in Supporting Role for her performance in Uunchai. The Best Playback Singer award went to Arijit Singh for Kesariya from Brahmastra, while Pritam bagged the Best Music Director award for the same film. AR Rahman won Best Background Music for Ponniyin Selvan I, while Sooraj R Barjatya got the Best Director Award for Uunchai.
'Gulmohar' named Best Hindi Film
Sharmila Tagore's Gulmohar, which also stars Manoj Bajpayee, won the Best Hindi Film National Award. KGF 2, starring Yash, was named the Best Kannada Film and also received an award for stunt choreography. The Best Telugu and Best Tamil Movie awards went to Karthikeya 2 and Ponniyin Selvan I respectively. Bajpayee received a special mention for Gulmohar. Best Film (Wholesome Entertainment) went to Shetty's Kantara, while Anand Krishnamurthy won Best Sound Design for Ponniyin Selvan I.
