National Film Awards 2017 announced
Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has received the Best Actor Award for 'Rustom', his first ever. 'Neerja' was judged the Best Hindi Feature film. Sonam Kapoor has received a Special Mention Award for 'Neerja'. Nagesh Kukunoor's 'Dhanak' received the Best Children's Film award. Dangal actress Zaira Wasim received the Best Supporting Actress Award. Legendary Malayalam actor Mohanlal has been given a Special Jury Award.

Akshay Kumar gets National Award for Best Actor for 'Rustom' Akshay Kumar has received the Best Actor Award for 'Rustom', his first ever National Film Award. 'Rustom' was inspired by the infamous 1959 Nanavati murder case. In the Neeraj Pandey-directed film, Kumar played Naval Commander Rustom Pavri, based on the real life Naval Officer K. M. Nanavati.
'Neerja' gets best Hindi Feature Film Award
'Neerja' was judged the Best Hindi Feature Film. The film, directed by Ram Madhvani, is a biographical thriller based on Neerja Bhanot, the chief flight attendant in Pan Am Flight 73 who in 1986 was killed by terrorists as she attempted to thwart a hijacking attempt, saving countless lives. Actress Sonam Kapoor played Bhanot's role for which she has received a Special Mention Award.
Zaira Wasim gets Best Supporting Actress Award for Dangal
The Best Supporting Actress award has gone to Zaira Wasim for 'Dangal'. 'PINK', which focused on the social issue of 'NO means NO' for women bagged Award for Best Film on Social Issues. The film starred Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu. The newly introduced Best Action Director award goes to Peter Hayne. The Best Actress award goes to Surabhi for Malayalam film "Minnaminungu-The Firefly".
Priyanka Chopra-produced Marathi film 'Ventilator' wins big
The Indira Gandhi Award for best debut film goes to the Deep Choudhury-directed Bengali film 'Alifa'. Emaan Chakraborty has received the Best Female Playback Singer for 'Tumi Jaake Bhalobasho' from film 'Praktan'. Navin Paul has bagged the award for Best Special Affects for the Ajay Devgn-directed 'Shivaay'. The Priyanka Chopra-produced Marathi film 'Ventilator' has bagged awards for Best Re-recording, Editing and Director (to Rajesh).
Awards presented to regional language films
Best Kannada film went to 'Reservation' while Dashakriya got the award for Best Marathi Film. 'Wrong Side Raju' received the Best Gujarati Film Award. The Raju Murugan-directed 'Joker' was judged the Best Tamil Film. 'Bishorjon' has won the Best Bengali Film award.
