#ThatWas2017: 5 films that tanked at box office in 2017
After a stupendous 2016, the movie buffs had a lot of expectations from the megastar movies that were lined up for the year, 2017. But this year has been particularly disappointing as most of the films with big stars tanked at the box office. From 'Tubelight' to 'Rangoon', here are 5 disastrous movies that tormented the box office and our minds!
Three megastars couldn't save 'Rangoon' from sinking
The multi-starrer film 'Rangoon' came as a major disappointment for all the Vishal Bhardwaj fans. The film starred three stellar actors of Bollywood, Shahid Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut and Saif Ali Khan. Known for giving several hits, people had a lot more expectations from this Bhardwaj directorial as nobody remakes Shakespeare's novels better than him. But the film failed miserably to hold the audience's attention.
'Half Girlfriend' challenged the patience of the viewers
An adaptation of Chetan Bhagat's novel of the same name, we had no expectations from 'Half Girlfriend', to begin with. But knowing the fact that Arjun had once done a great job with Chetan's adaptation of 'Two States', we were just being a little optimistic. Talking about the actors, Shraddha was disappointing, Arjun's desperate efforts to save the boat from sinking were visible!
The 'Tubelight' that never lit
The only time when Salman and Kabir Khan together made sense was in 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan'; when they tried to use the same trick to appease the audience again, they failed. Synonymous with its name, the film 'Tubelight' was so bland that it just couldn't gather itself to lit. Salman, who otherwise plays a macho, was trolled for playing a character that didn't make sense.
Brilliant visuals in 'Jagga Jasoos ' but cluttered script
An Anurag Basu directorial rarely disappoints because he has an out-of-the-box imagination. In 'Jagga Jasoos' too, he had a great story to tell but somehow failed in serving it right to the viewers. Starring ex-couple Ranbir and Katrina, the film got mixed reviews from people but it failed to weave magic on the box office. However, as always Ranbir stole the show.
'Jab Harry Met Sejal' but why?
Several months after the release of 'Jab...' and we still wonder why did Harry even meet Sejal. This film also proved that not everytime Imtiaz Ali can create magic. At the same time, one also wonders why did ShahRukh, after spending 25 years in the industry, sign up for this crap. We just hope 2018 doesn't turn out to be as disappointing as 2017!
