'Suriya 41': 5 things to know about Suriya, Bala's next
On Monday, the makers of Suriya's upcoming film with director Bala announced they have kickstarted the shooting process. Tentatively named Suriya 41, this yet-to-be-titled flick marks Suriya's 41st outing as an actor and 15th as a producer. The film is being bankrolled by Jyothika and Suriya's 2D Entertainment. While we wait for further updates, here are five facts to know about the forthcoming film.
First shooting schedule set in Kanyakumari
In its announcement post, 2D Entertainment informed the first shooting schedule has begun in Kanyakumari, a picturesque town in Tamil Nadu. Before the cameras started rolling, the team performed a formal pooja, the company tweeted. Sharing a photo collage of Suriya and Bala, the makers wrote, "The shoot of our next, #Suriya41 directed by #DirBala sir started today (Monday) with a pooja at Kanyakumari!!"
First collaboration between Suriya, Bala in 18 years
This project marks Bala's fourth collaboration with Suriya. They earlier joined hands for the National Film Award-winning film Pithamagan (2003), co-starring Vikram and Laila, and Suriya's breakthrough film Nandha (2001). Besides these, Suriya also had made a cameo appearance in Bala's Avan Ivan with Arya and Vishal in the lead roles. And now, the duo is collaborating for the first time in 18 years.
Film was announced last year
The film was officially announced in October 2021. Suriya took to social media to update his fans about the same. Alongside a photo of himself with his father, actor Sivakumar, and Bala, he wrote, "He (Bala) is a person who had more belief in me than I did. He made me experience new worlds. I am embarking on yet another beautiful journey with Bala."
Krithi Shetty, Mamitha Baiju signed as co-actors
Apart from Suriya, the upcoming film will have Telugu actor Krithi Shetty (Shyam Singha Roy) as the female lead. Makers also announced that Malayalam actor Mamitha Baiju is a part of the cast. Their roles have not been revealed yet, but Suriya reportedly will play a dual role. Out of his two characters, one will be deaf and mute.
Meet the rest of the crew members
GV Prakash, a favorite of Tamil filmmakers, has been roped in to compose the music for the movie. Earlier, Prakash and Suriya had collaborated for Soorarai Pottru (2020). In fact, Prakash will also compose the music for Suriya's next with director Vetrimaaran. V Mayapandi is the art director, Sathish Suriya will do the edits, and Balasubramaniem will handle the camera work for the film.
