5 South Indian actors who have collaborated with Amitabh Bachchan
Telugu actor Prabhas, popularly known as Rebel Star, is currently filming Project K alongside Bollywood stalwart Amitabh Bachchan. The film, touted to be a sci-fi thriller, also stars Deepika Padukone. The shooting schedule is taking place at Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad. However, Prabhas is not the only South Indian filmstar with whom Bachchan has worked. Here are the other top five.
'Hum': Rajinikanth played Bachchan's brother
When two superstars share the screen, it's nothing short of magic. This happened in Hum, which released on March 25, 1991. The action crime drama saw Bachchan, Rajinikanth, and a young Govinda as brothers. The Mukul S Anand-directorial was a phenomenal success and was later remade in Tamil as Baashha. That film interestingly had Rajinikanth in Bachchan's role. Baashha was also a commercial success.
'Geraftaar': Bachchan, Kamal Haasan's blockbuster film
In 1985, Bachchan played the elder brother to Kamal Haasan's character in Geraftaar. The action drama, directed by Prayag Raaj, was a blockbuster owing to its performance in the country and overseas. Rajinikanth featured in the film, too, in a cameo role. Haasan, fondly called Ulaganayagan (Universal Hero) by his fans, and Bachchan also shot for another film, Khabardar, but that got shelved later.
'Shamitabh': Dhanush, Bachchan's satirical drama
After getting widespread acclaim in his Bollywood debut Raanjhanaa, Dhanush signed his second Hindi film, Shamitabh, with none other than Bachchan. Directed by R Balki, the film had Dhanush as a mute aspiring actor. Meanwhile, Bachchan played a dejected drunkard, who once wanted to be an actor. The satirical drama didn't do well and had received mixed reviews, but the actors' performances were lauded.
'Sooryavansham': Sony Max staple, had Soundarya opposite Bachchan
There is a joke that whenever you open Sony Max on TV, you will find Sooryavansham being played. The film, which starred Bachchan in a double role, was a box office failure but later gained a cult following, thanks to the channel. A romantic musical drama, Sooryavansham was directed by EVV Satyanarayana and had late Telugu actor Soundarya as one of the female leads.
'Goodbye': Rashmika Mandanna plays Bachchan's daughter
Rashmika Mandanna, last seen in Telugu blockbuster Pushpa: The Rise, has already signed two Hindi films, Mission Majnu (which marks her Bollywood debut), and Goodbye. The latter, being directed by Vikas Bahl, has Bachchan as her co-actor. In it, Mandanna will be seen as Neeti Prajapati, daughter of Bachchan's character, Bhaskar Prajapati. Balaji Motion Pictures and Reliance Entertainment are backing Goodbye.
