5 series streamed the most in India this past week
The OTT platforms has seen tremendous growth since 2021, thanks to COVID-19. And, every week, we have some new show hitting the digital platforms, but this past week, viewers in India mostly watched old shows, either to rewind or to catch up due to a new development concerning the series. So, want to know the top five series Indians watched last week? Read on.
'Luther'
As per data compiled by streaming service guide app JustWatch in between the period of March 7-13, Luther was streamed the most. Is this because of Rudra, the Indian adaptation of Luther starring Ajay Devgn? Luther, a Primetime Emmy-nominated series, stars Idris Elba in the lead role. It ran for five seasons from 2010 to 2019 and is presently available on Amazon Prime Video.
'Game of Thrones'
Game of Thrones is in the second position. The fantasy drama that ended in 2019 still continues to be a rage it seems. The series, presently available on Disney+ Hotstar, is an onscreen adaptation of George RR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire. The show premiered in April 2011 and had eight seasons. Several spin-offs of the show are on the cards.
'Peaky Blinders'
Next up is Netflix's beloved series, Peaky Blinders. Created by Steven Knight, the crime drama, set in post-World War I Birmingham, England, focuses on the Shelby crime family. Originally, the show was to have seven seasons, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, makers brought it down to season 6. Its trailer came in January 2022 and the show will release on June 10.
'Bigg Boss'
In the fourth place, we have the reality show blockbuster Bigg Boss. Since no season has been mentioned by JustWatch in its data, we would assume all the seasons of the Salman Khan-hosted show were watched by viewers in India last week. Bigg Boss has surpassed popular series like Vikings and Outlander to capture the position. Its 15th season concluded in January 2022.
'The Last Kingdom'
Netflix's The Last Kingdom rounds up this list. The historical fiction series released its fifth and final season on March 9. Based on Bernard Cornwell's The Saxon Stories books, The Last Kingdom revolves around the life of Uhtred (Alexander Dreymon), a young warrior caught in a war. Currently, the streaming giant is developing its feature-length sequel that has been titled Seven Kings Must Die.
