'Puzhu' to 'Bilal': 5 Mammootty-led films to look forward to
Mammootty was last seen in Bheeshma Parvam, which has collected Rs. 75cr (worldwide) and is still going strong. In our review, we wrote that the film marries the Mahabharata with The Godfather and has the senior actor in the lead role. Apart from this, he will be seen in many films, which are in various stages of production currently. We list the top five.
'Puzhu'
Puzhu is the first entry on this list. Directed by Ratheena, Puzhu, which means earthworm in Malayalam, had dropped its teaser in January this year. Parvathy Thiruvothu will be seen as the leading lady, while late actor Nedumudi Venu, Vasudev Sajeesh, and Malavika Menon round up the cast of Puzhu. Mammootty's son, actor Dulquer Salmaan's Wayfarer Films is producing the film.
'CBI 5: The Brain'
Sethurama Iyer is returning! The CBI film series, starring the Malayalam superstar in lead, is getting a fifth part after 17 years. Titled CBI 5: The Brain, the film is being directed by K Madhu, who has helmed the other four parts as well. Along with Mammootty, Mukesh, and Sai Kumar return as well from the original cast. Jakes Bejoy is its music composer.
'Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam'
Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam is the third entry to this list. Being bankrolled by the veteran actor under his newly-formed launched production house, Mammootty Kampany, Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam (which loosely translates to daydreaming) is being directed by Jallikattu fame Lijo Jose Pellissery. Hareesh has written the script of the Tamil-Telugu bilingual film, which has Ramya Pandian as the leading lady. It is Mammootty-Pellissery's maiden collaboration.
'Agent'
Next on our list is Agent. It marks Mammootty's return to Telugu films after three years. Starring Akhil Akkineni and debutante Sakshi Vaidya in the lead roles, Agent is slated to hit the cinema halls on August 12 this year. Earlier this month, Mammootty's first look was shared with the text, "The Devil Ruthless Saviour (sic)," indicating that Mammootty might play the main antagonist.
'Bilal'
After Bheeshma Parvam, its lead Mammootty and director Amal Neerad are once again collaborating for their third film, Bilal. Touted to be a sequel to their first project Big B, Bilal will reportedly be shot in various locations including Kerala, Kolkata, and Poland. In the film, Mammootty will play the titular character, while Salmaan, Bilal Özel, Manoj K Jayan, and Bala are his co-actors.
