Tamil cinema or Kollywood had a good time last year. Many of its film releases—including Master, Annaatthe, Maanaadu, and Doctor—did well at the box office and impressed critics, too. And, 2022 also started off on a solid note for Kollywood because of releases like Valimai and FIR. The rest of the year also has several promising movies lined up. We pick the top five.

Beast, starring "Thalapathy" Vijay and Pooja Hegde, is slated to release on April 14. Written and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the black comedy action-thriller was 2021's most-tweeted Indian movie hashtag, while the first-look post was the most-retweeted and liked post of the year, so the buzz is huge. It is touted as a hostage-based invasion thriller with an emotional subtext of the Indian Army.
Kamal Haasan and Lokesh Kanagaraj's 'Vikram'
After 110 days of shoot, Kamal Haasan-led Vikram finally finished its filming schedule last week. The film marks his return to the silver screen after four years. Ponniyin Selvan is next on our list. Directed by Mani Ratnam, the film has a starry cast comprising Aishwarya Rai Bachchan (main antagonist), Trisha Krishnan, Vikram, Karthi, and "Jayam" Ravi, among others.
