'Naaradan' to 'Salute': 5 most-awaited Malayalam films releasing this year
Malayalam cinema is known for its story-driven realistic plots and cinematography. Most of last year's releases were rich in content, be it Ellam Sheriyakum, Kurup, Minnal Murali, Vellam The Essential Drink, or Kunjeldho. This year too, Malayalam film industry have released or will churn out many movies that look pretty promising. We list the top five most awaited ventures that are releasing in 2022.
'Naaradan': Tovino Thomas will be seen as an 'immoral' scribe
First up is Naaradan. The political thriller has been directed by Aashiq Abu and has Tovino Thomas and Anna Ben in principal characters. Thomas will be seen as Chandraprakash, a journalist who is forced to peddle fake news under pressure from his superiors. In the process, he questions his morality. The film is slated to hit the big screens on March 3 (Thursday).
'Bheeshma Parvam': Mammootty-led crime drama releasing on March 3
Bheeshma Parvam will be giving competition to Naaradan at the box office. Led by veteran actor Mammootty, Bheeshma Parvam will feature the star as a former gangster who is compelled to return to his old field of work to protect his family. Directed and written by Amal Neerad, it co-features prolific actors like Soubin Shahir, Shine Tom Chacko, and Farhaan Faasil, among others.
'Lalitham Sundaram': Manju Warrier's film will hit Disney+ Hostar soon
Next we have Lalitham Sundaram in line. Though the comedy drama has not received any release date yet, it is expected to release this year on Disney+ Hotstar. Helmed by Madhu Warrier (in his directorial debut), the film features his younger sister, top actor Manju Warrier, Biju Menon, Saiju Kurup, Deepti Sati, and Anu Mohan, among others. Manju is also the film's producer.
'Jana Gana Mana': Marks reunion of leads of 'Driving Licence'
Jana Gana Mana is the fourth entry in this list. Led by Prithviraj Sukumaran and Suraj Venjaramoodu, it has been directed by Dijo Jose Antony (Queen). Sharis Mohammed has written the film's script. Mamta Mohandas is also a part of the cast. This film reunites Sukumaran and Venjaramoodu after their blockbuster film, Driving Licence (2019). Jana Gana Mana hasn't received any release date yet.
'Salute': Dulquer Salmaan will don khaki for the first time
Salute, starring Dulquer Salmaan as a cop for the first time in his career, was to hit theaters on January 14, 2022, but owing to the pandemic, its premiere was postponed. It is yet to get any release date. Directed by Rosshan Andrrews, Salute will co-star Diana Penty as the leading lady. Notably, the film was screened at the 51st International Film Festival Rotterdam.
