Five films collectively earn record Rs. 700cr in one month
The last month has been marvelous for Bollywood as five new releases brought in massive crowds to theaters, raking in a record Rs. 700 crore collectively. Week-after-week since the Independence Day weekend, Mission Mangal, Batla House, Saaho, Chhichhore and Dream Girl have continued to boost box office collections even as The Zoya Factor, Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas and Prassthanam didn't perform so well.
'Mission Mangal' has crossed Rs. 200 crore mark
The I-Day release Mission Mangal debuted with an outrageous Rs. 28.45 crore opening day and has since crossed the Rs. 200 crore mark. The film, starring Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Sonakshi Sinha and Taapsee Pannu, is based on Indian Space Research Organization's (ISRO) 2013 Mars Orbiter Mission. Mission Mangal may have failed to impress the critics, but apparently, that didn't matter after all.
'Batla House' misses Rs. 100cr mark by a few lakhs
Directed by Nikkhil Advani, Batla House also hit theaters on August 15, collecting Rs. 14.81 crore on its opening day. It fell just short of crossing the Rs. 100 crore mark and has overall received decent reviews. Starring John Abraham, Batla House is based on the true account of the controversial encounter of Indian Mujahideen terrorists that took place in Delhi in September 2008.
Despite terrible reviews, 'Saaho' collected Rs. 200cr
The Prabhas and Shraddha Kapoor-starrer may have become the butt of all jokes because the film was just that insufferable, but again, that didn't matter after all. With Rs. 25.82 crore opening day box office collections after its August 29 release, Saaho has managed to drag its earnings to Rs. 200 crore. Directed by Sujeeth, the film did, however, flop in the south.
After modest opening day, 'Chhichhore' surges past Rs. 100cr
Released on September 6, Chhichhore had a modest opening day, collecting just Rs. 6.92 crore. However, as positive reviews flowed in, the film's earnings shot up and Chhichhore is now vying for the Rs. 150 crore benchmark. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the film stars Sushant Singh Rajput and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead and took the ninth spot on 2019's top-grossing films list.
Within 2 weeks, 'Dream Girl' crossed Rs. 100cr mark
It has only been two weeks since Dream Girl hit theaters and the film has already crossed the Rs. 100 crore mark. Dream Girl, the directorial debut of Raaj Shaandilyaa, collected Rs. 9.43 crore on its opening day and continues to bring in crowd. Starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Nushrat Bharucha, Dream Girl is expected to perform well at least until War arrives on October 2.
