5 contestants who have been finalized for 'Lock Upp'
Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut's debut as a reality show host is knocking on our doors, for Lock Upp is premiering on Sunday night (February 27). Here, she will be playing the "jailer" of 16 celebrity "inmates" who would have to fight tooth and nail to make it in this special lockup. Before the show starts streaming, take a look at these five confirmed contestants.
Nisha Rawal and Karanvir Bohra are known TV stars participating
Starting with television stars, the show will see Nisha Rawal and Karanvir Bohra's participation. Lock Upp is looking for controversial celebrities and Rawal fits the bill. She made headlines last year when she accused her estranged husband, actor Karan Mehra, of domestic violence. Meanwhile, Bohra comes honed with prior experience of reality shows, having participated in Khatron Ke Khiladi 5 and Bigg Boss 12.
Rawal was the first confirmed contestant for the show
'Lock Upp' will feature grand clash of Munawar Faruqui-Ranaut
The second contestant to be announced by the makers was comedian Munawar Faruqui. After getting arrested for allegedly insulting Hindu gods during a stand-up event in 2021, Faruqui has been vocal about losing out on shows due to vandalism threats. Plus, his participation will bring him face-to-face with Ranaut, a celebrity who has been widely mocked and ridiculed by the comedian in the past.
Known for courting controversies, actor Poonam Pandey will be participating
Actor-model Poonam Pandey's name has reportedly been in consideration for long and, confirming reports, the Nasha actor's participation was announced this week. Quite aptly, Pandey has been in news for various controversies. Last November, she filed a physical assault complaint against her husband Sam Bombay, who was then arrested by the Mumbai Police. She was in the news when Raj Kundra was arrested, too.
Lastly, we have wrestler and politician Babita Phogat
The last confirmed contestant is CWG gold medal-winning wrestler Babita Phogat. The sportsperson-cum-politician is expected to "break stereotypes" inside the Lock Upp jail. Notably, Aamir Khan's Dangal (2016) was loosely inspired by Phogat and her sister, wrestler Geeta Phogat's story. To know the rest of the contestants, tune into AltBalaji or MX Player to catch the premiere of Lock Upp at 10:00pm on Sunday.
'Lock Upp' premiere comes after legal trouble
Interestingly, the launch of Lock Upp on Sunday was doubtful after a Hyderabad businessman alleged the Ekta Kapoor-backed program was based on his registered idea, The Jail. Thereafter, a court had ordered a stay on the show's premiere. Thankfully, AltBalaji reportedly won the legal battle.
