John Mulaney aside, 5 celebrities who're in 'SNL' 5-Timers Club
American stand-up comedian-actor-writer John Mulaney became the latest celebrity to enter the prestigious 5-Timers Club at Saturday Night Live (SNL) recently. The not-so-private club includes names who have hosted the sketch show at least five times. Popular names like Buck Henry, Danny DeVito, Candice Bergen, Bill Murray, Ben Affleck, and Dwayne Johnson are part of this. Today, we look at five record-holding members.
This is how Mulaney was welcomed into the club
Alec Baldwin has hosted 'SNL' most number of times
Hollywood veteran Alec Baldwin holds the record of hosting SNL the most number of times (17). First taking up hosting duties in 1990, the actor-producer became eligible to enter 5-Timers Club in 1994. He is most widely known for his stint as former US President Donald Trump. Apart from hilarious reception, this performance also earned Baldwin an Emmy Award in 2017.
Tom Hanks first used term '5-Timers Club'
Next up, we have the person who used the term "5-Timers Club" on-air for the first time and it is none other than Tom Hanks. The Academy Award winner debuted as a host in 1985 and has hosted the show 10 times to date. He was invited to the club by veteran members Steve Martin, Elliot Gould, and honorary member Paul Simon in 1990.
Club status aside, Scarlett Johansson also met her husband here
Top Hollywood actor Scarlett Johansson has hosted SNL only six times till now but the show has a personal association with her. The Black Widow star met her husband and SNL comedian-writer Colin Jost on the sets of this very show. And, they are going strong given the pair welcomed their first child together, a son named Cosmo, in August 2021.
Drew Barrymore remains the youngest to host sketch show
Drew Barrymore also has hosted the show six times. But the Charlie's Angels actor holds the record of being the youngest host in the history of SNL. She was only seven years old during her inaugural stint in 1982, following the release of E.T. Notably, a gorgeous portrait of the actor adorns the posh chambers of the club.
Steve Martin became club member the fastest
The last member to make this list is Steve Martin. The Pink Panther actor initially held the most number of hosting appearances record, until it was broken by Baldwin in 2011. Still, Martin has another record to his name. He took the least amount of time to gain admittance into the 5-Timers Club. The actor also presented Mulaney with the club robe on Sunday.
