4 heavily underrated Hindi movies of 2018
So far, 2018 has been a great year for movies. We've seen big releases like 'Padmaavat', 'Race 3', and 'Sanju'. But not every movie got the limelight it deserved, especially as far as the performance on box-office is concerned. Critical acclamation and International media attention is what they got, but fan-following, they didn't. Here, we present the 4 most underrated Hindi films of 2018.
Veteran actor Renuka Shahane's Bollywood comeback with '3 Storeys'
Arjun Mukherjee-directed film '3 Storeys' had a range of genuine actors like Sharman Joshi, Richa Chadha, and Pulkit Samrat. It also marked Renuka Shahane's return to Hindi Cinema after a long absence. The film was set in a Mumbai chawl wherein the three protagonists lived on different floors of the chawl. While it was a refreshingly different take, the movie could not mint money.
Shoojit Sircar's 'October'
Starring Varun Dhawan and newcomer Banita Sandhu, 'October' was a slice-of-life, romantic drama film, directed by Shoojit Sircar. Dhawan played the role of a hotel-management trainee, whose life took a U-turn after one of his colleagues met with an accident. Avik Mukhopadhyay's cinematography was appealing, and Dhawan's performance was refreshing. However, it could not rake in crores, unlike other movies of Dhawan.
Majid Majidi's first India venture, 'Beyond The Clouds'
World acclaimed Irani filmmaker Majid Majidi brought us this tale of a brother and sister, and their struggles, while living in the city of Mumbai. The film 'Beyond The Clouds' had Ishaan Khatter and Malayalam actress Malavika Mohanan in the pivotal roles. While Majid was trying to balance the minimalism of Iranian cinema and the loud melodrama of Bollywood, the audience was not impressed.
The indomitable duo of Hansal Mehta-Rajkummar Rao returned with 'Omerta'
'Omerta' is based on the life of dreaded British terrorist, Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh. Rajkummar Rao delivered a power-packed performance, portraying the anti-hero in this Hansal Mehta directional. It was screened at 2017 Toronto International Film Festival, the Mumbai Film Festival, Florence Film Festival, Hong Kong International Film Festival and the Busan International Film Festival. However, it could not impress the masses of India.
