Netflix has confirmed the renewal of its hit science fiction series, 3 Body Problem, with more episodes slated to conclude the story.
Notably, the streaming giant did not label this extension as a "Season 2," but rather an order for "additional episodes."
The exact count of seasons and episodes will be disclosed at a future date.
The first season dropped on the streamer in March and was met with critical acclaim.

Creators expressed excitement over series extension
The creators of 3 Body Problem, David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, and Alexander Woo, expressed their enthusiasm about the series extension.
In a joint statement, they said, "Ever since we read the last page of Cixin Liu's magnificent trilogy, we hoped we'd be able to bring the audience to the end of the universe with us. Here we go!"
Benioff had previously stated that at least three or four seasons would be required to fully tell the story.

Netflix's upfront presentation revealed future plans
The announcement of the series extension was made during Netflix's inaugural upfront presentation on Wednesday.
It was also disclosed that Benioff and Weiss have extended their overall deal with Netflix, which they entered in 2019.
They are currently working on another project titled Death by Lightning, a historical drama about the assassination of US President James Garfield.
3 Body Problem, meanwhile, starred Benedict Wong, Zine Tseng, Liam Cunningham, among others.

The series spent three weeks at the No. 1 spot on the Netflix Top 10, followed by another four weeks lower on the chart.
It received a 79% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

In a previous statement, the makers had shared their plans for the upcoming season.
Weiss said, "This kind of eases you into the world of the story but the story gets really wild in the best possible way."
"With something that's that wild, there are a lot of choices to be made and a lot of things to be figured out. We've been putting our heads together to figuring them out recently, especially the past couple months."
