MTV reschedules 2024 VMAs: Check out new date, performers lineup
MTV has announced a change in the date for its 2024 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) to avoid a scheduling conflict with the upcoming US Presidential debate. The awards ceremony, initially slated for Tuesday, September 10, will now take place on Wednesday, September 11. This decision comes as part of MTV's longstanding commitment to promoting voter participation and civic engagement, which began during the 1992 election.
2024 VMAs: First set of performers announced
The first set of artists confirmed to perform at the eagerly-awaited 2024 VMAs includes Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, Camila Cabello, GloRilla, and Rauw Alejandro. This will be Cabello's third appearance on the VMA main stage, while it will be a debut for the other artists. Carpenter's transition from last year's pre-show to this year's main event highlights her growing popularity in the music industry.
Nominations and voting details
All five announced performers are nominees for VMAs. Carpenter is nominated for six awards, GloRilla for three, Roan and Alejandro for two each, and Cabello for one. Taylor Swift leads the nominations with 10 nods, followed by Post Malone with nine, and Ariana Grande, Eminem, and Carpenter with six each. Fans can vote for their favorites across 15 gender-neutral categories by visiting vote.mtv.com through August 30. Voting for best new artist will remain active in the show on September 10.
2024 VMAs to honor 9/11 victims and support related nonprofits
The rescheduled date for the 2024 VMAs coincides with the 23rd anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. In remembrance of this tragic event, MTV will support nonprofit organizations such as 9/11 Day and Tuesday's Children. These organizations provide assistance to families affected by the tragedy and organize national days of service and remembrance. The ceremony will be held at UBS Arena in New York at 8:00pm ET/PT on September 11.
