The Golden Popcorn! 'WandaVision' leads MTV Movie-TV Awards nominations
Nominations for the 2021 MTV Movie & TV Awards have finally been announced. Online voting across all categories is now open on MTV's official website until April 30. The award ceremony will take place over two nights on May 16 and 17 at the Palladium in Los Angeles. This will also be the inaugural year for Movie & TV Awards: Unscripted, a spin-off ceremony.
MCU show grabs five nominations including Best Show, Best Hero
Marvel and Disney's show WandaVision leads the pack with five nods. It has been nominated for the Best Show award. Elizabeth Olsen, who plays the time-bending Wanda Maximoff, has been nominated for Best Performance In A Show. Teyonah Parris (Monica Rambeau) is up for Best Hero, Kathryn Hahn (Agatha) for Best Villain, and the Wanda v/s Agatha sequence has been nominated for Best Fight.
'WandaVision' will be competing against 'Bridgerton,' 'Emily in Paris'
Besides WandaVision, the other nominees for Best Show include Netflix and Shondaland's hit period drama Bridgerton, Cobra Kai, Lily Collins starrer Emily in Paris, and Amazon-produced series The Boys. Nominees for Best Performance in a Show, besides Olsen, include Anya Taylor-Joy for The Queen's Gambit, Elliot Page for The Umbrella Academy, Emma Corrin for The Crown, and Michaela Coel for I May Destroy You.
Best Performance in Movie: Zendaya up against four Oscar-nominated actors
Carey Mulligan (Promising Young Woman), Chadwick Boseman (Ma Rainey's Black Bottom), Daniel Kaluuya (Judas and the Black Messiah), Sacha Baron Cohen (The Trial of the Chicago 7), Zendaya (Malcolm & Marie) have been nominated for Best Performance in Movie. Nominations for Best Movie include To All the Boys: Always and Forever, Soul, Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, Judas and the Black Messiah and Promising Young Woman.
Of heroes and villains: Superheroes rule in Best Hero category
Besides Parris, other Best Hero nominees include Anthony Mackie for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Gal Gadot for Wonder Woman 1984, Jack Quaid for The Boys and Pedro Pascal for The Mandalorian. For the Best Villain, the nominees include Aya Cash (The Boys), Ewan McGregor (Birds of Prey), Giancarlo Esposito (The Mandalorian), and Nicholas Hoult (The Great), apart from Hahn for WandaVision.
Best Kiss nominees include 'Bridgerton's Regé-Jean Page & Phoebe Dynevor
There is also the cheeky category of Best Kiss in the MTV Movie & TV Awards. The nominees for that include Chase Stokes & Madelyn Cline - Outer Banks, Jodie Comer & Sandra Oh - Killing Eve, Lily Collins & Lucas Bravo - Emily in Paris, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan & Jaren Lewison - Never Have I Ever and Regé-Jean Page & Phoebe Dynevor - Bridgerton.
Nominees for the inaugural Movie & TV Awards: Unscripted
Along with the nominations, MTV has announced the first-ever edition of Movie & TV Awards: Unscripted, which will celebrate more reality-based shows. VH1's RuPaul's Drag Race leads the pack with four nominations. It's followed by two each for TLC's 90 Day Fiancé, Netflix's Bling Empire, HBO Max's Legendary, VH1's Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta, Netflix's Nailed It! and MTV produced Ridiculousness and The Challenge.
