'13 Reasons Why' Season 2 has been delayed: Here's why
The prolonged wait for the second season of Netflix's '13 Reasons Why' has made the fan restless. It is because of the orders of the Parents Television Council (PTC) that the streaming giant has put the show on hold. PTC doesn't want Netflix to stream the second season until it is determined as "safe for consumption by audience".
PTC's reasoning behind pausing season 2
PTC president Tim Winter said in a statement, "The impact of season one of '13 Reasons Why', which culminated with a graphic suicide scene of a high school-aged character, was powerful and intense." "The Google search term for how to commit suicide spiked 26% and there were news reports of children literally taking their own lives after the series was released," he added.
Netflix has already added warning cards
After the pilot season of '13 Reasons Why' faced backlash for graphic depiction of suicide, Netflix resorted to adding warning cards and crisis hotlines' information to episodes. It also went on to commission a global research study with Northwestern University's Center on Media and Human Development. The study was titled as "Exploring How Teens and Parents Responded to 13 Reasons Why".
