'12th Fail' set for wide release in China
Vikrant Massey, the lead actor of Vidhu Vinod Chopra's critically acclaimed film 12th Fail, has confirmed a major release of the movie in China. Following its successful 600-screen debut in India, the film is now slated for an impressive 20,000-screen release across China. Massey told India Today that the plans have been underway for a few months, and now it's official that the film will be released in China.
Indian cinema enjoys huge popularity in China
Massey highlighted the growing demand for Indian cinema in China. He stated that Hindi and Indian films are highly sought after in China. The allocation of over 20,000 screens for 12th Fail is a testament to this. He noted that the Indian entertainment sector has a major focus in China, which explains the large number of screens allocated for the film's release. However, Massey did not reveal any plans to visit China for promotional activities.
'12th Fail' marked significant success in India
Despite a limited initial release, 12th Fail managed to amass ₹56.75 crore domestically, marking it as a significant success given its modest budget. The film was shown across India on its opening day and continued to receive positive reviews on social media following its release on streaming platform Disney+ Hotstar. It became the first film since 2001 (Gadar) to run for 25 weeks in theaters, celebrating its silver jubilee, a milestone Massey gratefully acknowledged on social media.
'12th Fail' plot and awards, recognition
The plot of 12th Fail revolves around the early life and challenges faced by IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma, as depicted in a 2019 book. This compelling narrative earned lead actor Massey the Best Actor Award at the 69th Filmfare Awards. Last week, Vinod Chopra Films announced Zero Se Restart, a feature film that will provide an insider's view of the making of 12th Fail.
