Four years after the shocking Nirbhaya gang-rape, things still look the same in Delhi. A 20-year-old was raped in a car by a man posing as a cab driver in south Delhi's Moti Bagh area, on Thursday. Woman was waiting for a bus to go to Noida when a car bearing ministry of home affairs sticker offered her lift. Accused has been arrested.
Crackdown on touts operating in RTO
In a bid to curb the influence of touts in regional transport office, special transport officer suspended a motor licensing officer at Wazirabad. This happened a week after a woman staffer complained of being manhandled by touts at the RTO office. Commissioner also ordered surprise raids at zonal offices to eliminate the influence of touts. Entry to motor licensing offices will also be regulated.
Mentally challenged woman raped
Police arrested an employee of Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (Rohtak) for allegedly raping a mentally challenged woman. The woman hinted about it to one of the doctors who conducted a pregnancy test which was positive. Woman's pregnancy test was found negative when she was brought at the hospital in June this year. Police case was lodged after which the accused was arrested.
Cash-strapped DMRC resorts to video advertisements for revenue
With no fare revision in sight, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation will soon install digital walls to play video advertisements to increase its revenue. Walls as big as 16x8 feet will be installed at all stations, which will give chance to bring in multiple advertisers in the same space. Trains on the Phase 3 network will also be equipped with LED display panels for advertisements.
Situation now worse since December 16, 2012
Delhi has gone from bad to worse when it comes to the number of rape incidents in the city. Four years after the horrific gang-rape, rape cases have risen to 2199 in 2016 from 706 in 2012. Meanwhile, conviction rate has dropped from 49.25% in 2012 to a mere 29.37% in 2015. Police officials called it a social problem rather than a law-and-order problem.
Bullets didn't break him, demonetization did
Tears trickled down the face of a 78-year-old retired-soldier, Nand Lal, standing in a bank queue. The man who had braved bullets on border has no one and nothing else except his pension to fall back on. He blasted the mismanagement after failing to get his pension after three days. Lal was finally allowed to jump the queue and was able to withdraw money.
Online frauds on rise after demonetization
Ghaziabad cyber security cell has been kept busy by complaints of online frauds since November 8. 25 cyber security complaints have been received after demonetization, taking the tally to 60 complaints this year against 85 in 2015. Instances of customers being duped of their credit card details have seen a spurt after demonetization. Cyber security cell claims of being fully equipped to track fraudsters.
