Ola-Uber drivers threaten to go on strike across Delhi-NCR
With demands not being addressed, Ola-Uber driver unions threatened to wage a strike from 19th June across Delhi-NCR. This would be the second strike by thse taxi drivers in 2017. Their demands include reduction of commission paid to the company, fixed accidental insurances. They are also against low pool ride fares and withdrawal of incentives. Delhi gets respite from heat wave, light rains expected
Delhiites got a break from the heat wave as they woke up to witness cloudy sky with winds blowing across Delhi-NCR. According to regional weather department, 'two or three spells of rain/thunderstorm accompanied with squally winds exceeding 55 kmph would occur over Delhi/NCR region from evening of June 6-8." The Met office forecasted cloudy day accompanied by light showers on Wednesday.
Haryana CM unavailable, rail overbridge fails to be inaugurated twice
The rail overbridge (RoB) built along Dwarka Expressway (NPR) failed to be inaugurated the second time on June 1 due to unavailability of Haryana's CM Manohar Lal Khattar. The 1,300m long RoB has been given the green light for inauguration by the engineering department. This delay has become a cause of concern for homebuyers who are looking forward to upcoming estates along the expressway.
Delhi CM revives plan of penalizing power companies
As power blackouts get more frequent, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal revived his proposal of penalizing power distribution companies. According to proposal, the discoms will have to provide reimbursements for power cuts lasting over 2 hours. The discoms will also have to notify people about power cuts via SMS. With the power demand soaring to 6,750 MW, experts have emphasized on power conservation.
Ghaziabad to have commercial-hubs, similar to RDC
The Ghaziabad development authority (GDA) plans to have commercial hubs which will serve as one-stop facility for restaurants, retail chains, showrooms, malls, banks and ATM. The land for hub is being identified which will be along the lines of Raj Nagar District Centre (RDC), visited by thousands of people daily. According to GDA, this will also help them to generate revenues.
South Delhi Corporation brings in technology to prevent dengue outbreaks
With monsoon round the corner, the South Corporation is all set to use technology to prevent the outbreak of vector borne diseases like dengue, chikungunya etc. The corporation will provide 200 tablets to domestic breeding checkers who will visit houses to check stagnation of water and mosquito breeding. The details of the visit will be entered in the tablet for department heads to monitor.
Power shortage across Delhi as demand soars
Power demand in Delhi reached a new high at 6,526 MW on Tuesday, crossing Monday's demand which stands at 6,361 MW. Power outrages occurred across Delhi with power cuts lasting from 1 to 8 hrs even during night time. Areas like Laxmi Nagar, Janakpuri, Aya Nagar, Chhatarpur, Uttam Nagar, Paschim Vihar, Narela, Jahangirpuri, Burari, Pattparganj suffered multiple power cuts through the day.
