New Anand Vihar metro station a boon for passengers

The new Anand Vihar metro station will improve connectivity between East Delhi and Gurugram. Anand Vihar will now have two metro stations: one on the pink line and the other on the blue line. This station will serve as an interchange point and save travel time for commuters. Currently 24,000 passengers use the station and an additional 16,000 will use the new interchange station.

Male student locks up teacher

At a government school in East Delhi, a 43-year old English teacher was locked up a male student in the bathroom. The student started passing lewd and obscene comments and refused to unlock the door. He however ran away when the teacher climbed up to the washroom's ventilator and started calling for help. The police have registered an FIR in this matter.

Infrastructure

Lajpat flyover to partially close

The Lajpat flyover will be partially closed for a few days to undertake some crucial repairs. There is a widening gap between two expansion joints making it unsafe for vehicular use especially for two-wheelers. PWD officials have however reassured the public and said the flyover was structurally safe to use. However the flyover is overdue for comprehensive repairs which may be undertaken in March.

Khan market traffic woes may end

Visitors and shoppers at Khan Market may now have a hassle-free entry and exit. The New Delhi Municipal Corporation has finally started work on a multi-level underground parking at the Amrita Shergill Marg which will ease congestion and reduce traffic jams. When completed, the parking lot will accommodate 400 cars. Currently 700-800 cars are parked daily in the market and it is jam-packed.

Manish Sisodia dares CBI to probe him

A CBI probe has been initiated against Delhi's Deputy CM Manish Sisodia and Health Minister Satyendar Jain's daughter. The probe is with respect to irregularities in AAP's social media campaign and the appointment of an advisor. Manish Sisodia responded, "Welcome to the field Mr Modi. I will wait for your CBI tomorrow at my residence and office. Lets see how strong you are."

Tech glitches

Snag in auto permit process

On the first day to submit online applications for autorickshaw permits, the website was suffering from glitches. According to rickshaw drivers' union, many drivers were trying to access online forms but the link wasn't functioning. The transport website will issue 10,000 permits. An eligibility list has been prepared by the government and permits will be granted on basis of license dates.

Respiratory problems on the rise

Gurugram's pollution has led to a massive rise in respiratory problems in the city over the last 15 days. The minimum temperature was 5 degrees Celsius on Thursday which is two degrees below normal. According to doctors, the hazardous Particulate Matter 2.5 has been 6 times higher than normal this winter season. Residents are being advised to remain home and avoid the winter smog.

Ghaziabad

Woman arrested for kidnapping toddler

A woman kidnapped a one-year old girl from outsider her residence at Gagan Vihar in Ghaziabad: the incident came to light via CCTV footage. The child was playing outside the house and when the family realized she was missing, they filed a police complaint. The police tracked down the woman to Nand Nagri area. They are yet to determine why the child was kidnapped.
