UP 'baba' charges woman Rs. 60,000 to "save marriage," held
With the promise of 'solving' unemployment, relationship and marital problems, including infertility and pregnancy, a UP man has been duping hundreds of gullible people since 3-4 years. He was finally arrested two days back after a woman complained against him. He had assured her that her marriage will be set right, and had demanded Rs. 60,000, only to tell her later that it's futile.
Majid conducted animal sacrifices with my money: Complainant
The woman in her complaint mentioned that 33-year-old Majid alias 'Sufi Shahbuddin' used her money to conduct animal sacrifices too, and killed four goats. However, in the end, when he couldn't help her with her marriage, she "felt cheated and approached us," said Kapoor Singh, investigating officer. He had set up his base near a Gurugram bus stand and was arrested from there.
He was held last year too, which boosted his name
However, this isn't his first arrest. He was held last year too for two days for cheating a couple. Instead of being a deterrence, it actually became a boon for him. "More people started visiting him after his arrest was publicized in the media," said Paramjeet, who has a shop beside Majid's office. Even yesterday, people were swarming outside Majid's office, he added.
Had put up advertisement at bus stand, nearby areas
People approached him with their nagging problems after spotting his advertisement at the bus stand and nearby areas, which also mentioned his phone number. Apart from demanding money for 'rituals', he also sold amulets to his grieving clients and made money out of that, Singh said. Majid has been remanded to two days' police custody by a local court.
